Round of 8 Pool Standings

Once again the Power Rankings have proved atypically prescient in predicting the pool teams' standings. With each pick in this round worth 4 points, Team Jerusalem retains his place at the top of the table with an impressive 11-1 record, but shares the spot with Cantona who's EPL expertise and "law of averages" theory on English head-to-head matches saw him correctly select Chelsea over Liverpool. As mentioned before, the rest of us all picked en masse, except for Eastern Influence who also rode lucky Guus Hiddink up a couple positions on the table, while Crown City FC's Bayern boys let him down both literally and figuratively.

The next round figures to separate the wheat from the chaff as each correct pick is worth 6 pts. The ties begin next Tuesday, April 28th so be looking to make your selections over the weekend.

So, remember when I said Liverpool might have a shot at the PL title?

Arshavin has pretty much single-handedly taken care of that. Utd should consider themselves lucky that he's ineligible for CL play. Benayoun and Torres had a decent game, but the Russian ran circles around all of them. What a jerk.

Naw, I'm just kidding. I'm sure he's a very nice guy. I do hate him, though.

i developed a bit of a man-crush on that dude after his performance against holland in the euros.

he said his dream was to play w/ barca, but zenit was asking too high a transfer price back then... and pep had his heart set on hleb.

hleb?! c'mon now!that guy hasn't even warmed the bench properly this year.

yep. we whiffed big on the russki. like you said, c&b, thankfully he's not eligible for the cl. he could be the difference maker.

All joking aside, my only beef with him is that he's helping Arsenal muscle Aston Villa out of next year's CL. Can't blame the guy for being amazingly good at what he does.

I guess it would be more accurate to say that Villa have taken themselves out of it without any help at all. Arsenal's only contribution is that they aren't sucking.

Did I miss someone posting a link to this particular video clip somewhere on the blog? If not, given the frequency of food and ankle injuries in the sport, I think it's only appropriate for us to all spend a few minutes with it:

Yeah, Team Auckland, M.D.! Best thing I've seen on KRON in ages. I'm taking my stilettos off and glad I didn't need an ankle replacement in the '70s.

P.S. The better half of Real Marin would like someone to define "man-crush." Is that sort of like the crush I have on Rafa Marquez?

Thanks Liz and JC. It was a bit dorky but could have been worse. Was definitely glad to get it over with. Don't worry, I'm definitely not giving up my career in surgery for one on TV :).
