Round of 4 Pool Standings

It seems that each year the pool gets tighter and tighter, which may speak to the increasing football savviness of the participants. Coming off of two consecutive runner-up finishes, Cantona is poised to capture this year's pool if his beloved United can repeat as European champions. It also appears that the Bonus Pick (worth 3 pts.) could be a big factor in determining the prize-winners. With Cantona, Banana Island, and Team Auckland all having picked Manchester United to win it all, the Continentalist stands out in the second place pack as the only one to have picked Barça. What does this all mean? I'll leave it to you to ponder, but keep in mind that the final is worth 8 pts.

United v. Barça is a dream match up for most of the world's football fans. With a little luck we'll get a more open contest than the two matches they played against each other in last year's semifinals. Enjoy. And to the many United fans in the pool -- may the best side win ;)

Real Marin - You deserve an extra 4 points for maintaining the CL 2009 blog. See you in South Africa in 2010 for the World Cup Friends Pool. There will be much to discuss. I'll be leaning on you for a few graphical tidbits and expert analyses. Maybe even EI and the assorted wild brain crew will make the transition from commenters to contributors. Cantona, Banana Island, Claret & Blue are all forces to be reckoned with. Team Auckland is sure to add some fire fire. As is customary - there will be a kitty - and yes I am already developing a highly technical and legalistic point scheme to exploit my opponents' weaknesses.

Nice, Continentalist. The other half of Real Marin and I are greatly looking fwd to next year's WCF Pool. Really the CL Pool was just a way of keeping the torch burning until South Africa. Of course we're happy to assist but are glad to turn the driver's wheel back over to you. We're going to have to set aside a monthly stipend to cover what will undoubtedly be a steeper entry fee for next year's tourney. Good luck trying to wrap up this season's title.

Teams Jerusalem and CCFC - I didn't mean to leave you out. I suspect though that Jerusalem is going to have trouble going 11-0 in the 2010worldcupfriendspool because you can't pick the English team every time. CCFC: Perhaps married life will temper your emotional leanings towards the Dutch.
